CHPW is required by contract with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Washington State Health Care Authority (HCA) that the CHPW contracted provider network is required to complete General Compliance and (if not directly contracted with Medicare) Fraud, Waste and Abuse training that satisfy requirements under 42 CFR §438.608 (a) and (b), §422.503(vi)(C) and §423.504(b)(vi)(C).
- CHPW contracted providers are required to maintain evidence and must make evidence of training available for up to ten (10) years upon request.
- Such training and education must occur at a minimum annually and must be made a part of the orientation for a new employee training.
- All staff, including your senior leadership, managers, clerical/admin staff, billing, physicians, and other clinical staff are required to receive this training.
- Provider can use your own training materials, but must satisfy CMS standards and requirements under 42 CFR §438.608 (a) and (b), §422.503(b)(vi)(C), and §423.504(b)(vi)(C) or you can access CHPW’s GCFWA training HERE.
As stated by CMS, there is one exception to the Fraud, Waste and Abuse training and education requirement. CMS implemented a “deeming” exception for an entity or an individual who is enrolled in Medicare Part A or B. This means that your training requirement for Fraud, Waste and Abuse is satisfied if you are enrolled in Medicare Part A or B; therefore, your annual attestation would only apply to General Compliance.
