You deserve a plan that treats your whole health. That includes every part of you—emotional, physical, and mental—and embraces the communities you belong to.
Community Health Plan of Washington’s (CHPW) coverage includes several benefits geared toward LGBTQ+ communities.
Gender-affirming health services
As a CHPW member, your gender-affirming care needs are covered.
CHPW covers hormone therapy and mental health services related to gender transition, also called “gender reassignment” or “gender confirmation” in medical terminology.
For more information about these services, talk to your doctor. You can also contact us by email or phone to learn more.
Gender-affirming surgery is covered for CHPW members through the Health Care Authority (HCA).
Most surgical services will be covered by fee-for-service, which you may know as ProviderOne. The services may be provided by any provider who accepts Apple Health (Medicaid), with prior authorization from the HCA.
Transgender health services provided through the HCA may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Breast/chest surgeries
- Genital surgeries
- Other surgeries including vocal surgery
Mental and behavioral health services
Sadly, members of Washington’s LGBTQ+ community still experience bias and isolation, which can have adverse effects on mental, emotional, and behavioral health.
CHPW members have access to a range of mental health services that include:
- Individual or group counseling
- Inpatient and outpatient treatment
- 24/7 Nurse Advice Line
- Prescription medication
Often, the things that make the biggest difference to your health happen outside the doctor’s office. CHPW’s Community Programs and Case Management can help connect you with local resources for food, shelter, and job training.
Our Case Managers provide individual support to help you meet your health goals. They can help you schedule doctor’s appointments, fill out paperwork (ex: for disability), apply for jobs, and much more.
